How to Choose the Best Website Builder for Your Business

How To Choose The Best Website Builder for Your Business

When creating a website for your business, it’s incredibly important to choose the right platform to build it on. You want to be sure that your site not only looks professional but is also highly functional and easy to edit once it’s built.

Website builders such as Weebly, Wix and Squarespace have proven to be incredibly popular with business owners thanks to their ability to easily manipulate the look of a website as well as edit its content.

Why Use a Website Builder

If you want a professional looking website for your business then you’ll likely have considered a few different options for how to have it built. A lot of business owners will choose to hire a web designer to build their website.

Whilst hiring a web designer comes with some obvious benefits, there are also some key drawbacks to too. Firstly a web designer is going to cost a lot of money, so if you’re short on start-up funds hiring one will be a non-starter. Secondly, it can be difficult to communicate your creative vision for your site to match with theirs. The last and biggest drawback in our opinion is that web designers are often not that knowledgeable when it comes to SEO (search engine optimisation) or CRO (conversion rate optimisation), despite their protestations!

There are some key benefits that come with using a website builder. These include :-

Ease of use – Website builders are typically very easy to use since they’re aimed at business owners who don’t have the time to learn HTML and CSS but still want a professional looking website that’s easy to edit.

Cost – Another great benefit of website builders is that they’re much cheaper when compared to hiring a web designer to build your site from scratch or purchasing a premium WordPress theme.

Integration – When running a business online you’re going to want to integrate several facets of your business as easily as possible. For example you’ll almost certainly have social media channels that you want to integrate in your website as well as having customer support features such as live chat, integrated into your site. Most website builders enable you to integrate these types of features very easily.

SEO Optimised – For any website, but especially business websites – traffic is vital. One of the best ways to ensure that you rank well for keywords related to your industry is to ensure the content on your website is SEO optimised. When you use a website builder, you don’t have to be an expert in SEO to ensure your website is optimised since you’ll be provided with tools to make the process easy and intuitive.

Which Website Builder is Right for You?

This is a very important question. Whilst there are a lot of website builders out there to choose from, each has its own unique features and choosing the one that’s right for you is essential if you want to get the most from your website.

Below are 5 of the biggest website builders currently on the market. Let’s look at the key features of each and how they compare :-

123 Reg – 123 Reg is one of the most popular hosting companies in the UK. As well as providing hosting packages, they also have a website builder that’s available for users. The cost of their website builder starts at just £2.49 a month and there is a 30 day free trial available so you can decide whether it’s right for you.

Their website builder comes with three options – one for personal websites, the second for ecommerce/business websites and the third option, business mobile, which enables a mobile site to be created. Key benefits of 123 Reg’s website builder are that they have UK servers which offers some SEO benefits, their customer service is open during UK business hours and their hosting is very reliable.

GoDaddy – GoDaddy are best known as a domain registrar although they also offer hosting, email accounts and a website builder. GoDaddy’s website builder starts from just £0.69 per month, making it one of the cheapest website builders on the market. Whilst there is no free trial available, the extremely low price means it’s practical to try out without any risk.

£0.69 per month is for their Economy package, which includes a free domain, 50 themes, unlimited pages and 1GB of disk space. They also have a Business and Business Plus package, which come with a lot more themes as well as great disk space and more options for social media management and SEO.

Squarespace – Squarespace has grown a lot in popularity over the last few years. Their attractive and easy-to-use interface has a lot to do with this growth in popularity. Squarespace offer integrated hosting with their website builder, which means you don’t have to worry about finding hosting elsewhere.

They have tools for easy social media integration as well as full integration with WordPress and Tumblr blogs. Whilst Squarespace has a great interface and excellent customer support, it is let down slightly when compared to other site builders in that it only has 28 themes to choose from.

Shopify – Shopify differs from the other website builders on this list in that they specialise in ecommerce websites. Shopify offer a free 14-day trial of their service, which is particularly useful since it gives you time to get used to their interface before committing to a plan. Their pricing starts at £8.00 per month for their Starter package and goes all the way up to £105.00 per month for an Unlimited account.

Some key benefits of Shopify are that they offer unlimited pages and email addresses, unlimited storage space and more than 100 professional templates to choose form.

Weebly – Weebly is a very popular choice of website builder for business owners. Part of what make Weebly popular is extremely easy-to-use interface and excellent ecommerce options. Like most other website builders, Weebly uses a drag & drop interface to help you get your website looking exactly how you want it. Weebly also has an excellent app available for both iOS and Android.
